Johannes Rauch has been the Federal Minister of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection of the Republic of Austria since March 2022. After training as a bank clerk and a social worker, he worked in various social fields before devoting himself to politics full-time.

He joined the Greens in 1985 and was their regional spokesman in Vorarlberg from 1997 to 2021. He was a member of the state parliament from 2000 to 2014 and a state councillor for environmental protection and public transport from 2014 to 2022. In this role, he advocated for the expansion of public transport, the promotion of renewable energies and climate protection.

As Federal Minister, he is responsible for the areas of social affairs, health, care and consumer protection. A key part of his agenda is the older generation, which makes up an important part of Austrian society. He is convinced that the dignity and human rights of older people must be respected and promoted.
